By Paige Powers, Marketing Coordinator
For this month’s employee blog, we will continue to introduce another person that is behind on scenes! For only being here for a few shorts months, Kelly McKenna, our Order Processing Specialist, has been a huge asset to GAMMA Sports. Keep scrolling to get to know Kelly and what she likes to do when she’s not working.
What is your current position at GAMMA Sports?
I am the Order Processing Specialist.
How long have you been with GAMMA?
4 months – I started in July of this year.
How did you come to work with GAMMA?
At my last job, I had some down time and asked my friend/coworker to teach me what she was doing in her role. Then, when she received a promotion, I was transferred to her department to fill the position that she had vacated. That job and the skill that she taught me are what led me to GAMMA (Thanks, Tessa!).
What’s your favorite part of working at GAMMA?
Everyone really works together as a team. There’s no hesitation to ask for help because at the end of the day, we all have the same goal.
Before coming to GAMMA, what did you do before?
A little bit of everything! I’ve worked in logistics, marketing, and even in the fashion closet at Cosmopolitan Magazine.
Where did you grow up? Are you a native Pittsburgher?
Yes, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh. My mom grew up in the North Side closer to the city and my dad’s family is from a suburb just a bit north – my grand has lived in the same house in the North Hills for almost 70 years!
Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I went to Kent State University for Fashion Merchandising.
Do you play pickleball or tennis?
I play tennis once time a year, just enough to realize that I’m not very good.
Do you prefer to play or watch sports?
Watch, for sure. I’ve been to some really exciting games (Penguins double overtime in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final is one of my best memories!) and there’s nothing like it!
What are your favorite teams to watch?
Steelers and Penguins, of course. And the Pirates have their moments.
What is something that you like to do in your free time?
I love to cook as almost as much as I love to eat.
What are some of your favorite things to cook?
Haluski. Any recipe that calls for two sticks of butter is my kind of recipe.
If you had one day to do whatever you wanted, what would you do?
Lay on a beach with all my friends and family, listen to good music and cook every meal over a bonfire.
What is one place that you would like to travel someday?
I’ve been to Bratislava, Slovakia, which is where my maternal grandpa’s family lived before they emigrated, so now I need to go to Ireland to see where the rest of my family is from.
What’s one piece of advice you wish someone had shared with you when you were younger?
Worrying about how things could go wrong won’t help them go right. Also, that “temporary” hair dye will turn your hair a shade of red that can only be described as similar to tomato juice – which is not what you were going for. Maybe I should have worried about things going wrong then…
