By Paige Powers, Marketing Coordinator
For this month’s employee blog, we feature Jason Holliday, who is our Key Account Manager. Jason has been with GAMMA Sports for almost a year and a half. Read below to learn more about him!
What is your current position at GAMMA Sports?
National Key Account Manager
How long have you been with GAMMA?
Since June of 2018
How did you come to work with GAMMA?
I worked with our Brand Manager, Josh, 16 years ago at a theatre company. He introduced me to Patrick, our VP of sales, and I was hired as Business Development Manager from there!
What’s your favorite part of working GAMMA?
There’s a few things – working with a variety of people with industry experience ranging from brand new to 40+ years, it’s a family-owned business, so being able to be involved and seeing many parts of the business is great—especially compared to a large company where you only know a few people (here I know everyone). Also, our office is on an island…in Pittsburgh…how many people can say that?
Before coming to GAMMA, what did you do before?
I’ve worked in sales and marketing for the past several years. At one point I was an actor and on-air radio personality.
We hear you’re not from Pittsburgh. Where did you grow up and how long have you lived in Pittsburgh?
I grew up in Southern West Virginia. I moved to Pittsburgh in 2010 and love the city.
Where did you go to college and what was your major?
I went to two schools – first was Point Park University in Pittsburgh and next was Concord University in W.V. I majored in theatre at Point Park and Communications at Concord.
A theater major?! That’s pretty awesome. What was one of your favorite experiences in acting?
The best part were the friends I made over the years. Many times contracts are just for a few months and between rehearsals and performances you work a lot of hours. So, you meet a new set of people, spend every waking moment together, and then go on to the next one.
Do you play pickleball or tennis?
I grew up playing tennis and still follow the tour. I’ve picked up pickleball and I’m working on it. I need several more lessons with Chuck.
As GAMMA’s in-house restaurateur, what are your three top places in Pittsburgh that are a must try?
Just three? DiAnoia’s Eatery, Altius (for the food and the view), and Black Radish Catering’s ‘Sunday Sauce’ dinners.
You get to do some traveling working for GAMMA, but do you also enjoy traveling in your free time? What are some of your favorite places that you’ve been?
I love to travel. Since I have friends in many places I love to see them and have an opportunity to experience new places and things. I recently traveled to Spain and seeing the history was fascinating. I spent time in a small village of 900 people where I got to experience the true ‘local’ atmosphere.
What is something that you like to do in your free time?
I spend a lot of time with my wife, Kim, and dog, Cooper. Kim is currently working on her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy with University of Pittsburgh. Our schedules don’t always line up, so it’s nice when we get to spend time together. We usually try new restaurants in Pittsburgh, go to a sports game, see a show, or plan our next trip. Cooper’s main interests are naps and tennis balls. Luckily, I have a good supply of them.
If you had one day to do whatever you wanted, what would you do?
I’d be somewhere tropical with my family and friends. Somewhere relaxing with good food. I also have a goal to make it to each tennis grand slam, so I could also pick seeing the championship match at one of those!
What’s one piece of advice you wish someone had shared with you when you were younger?
It’s something I was told, which is don’t worry about things too much. It took a long time to learn that, but I’m glad I did.
