This year we are so excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of our TNT tennis string! We decided to take a little trip down memory lane and walk through some of the history of TNT…with its original inventors and contributors!
A scientist, engineer and tennis professional walk into GAMMA Sports…and after four years, our TNT string was complete! In case you’re wondering, the scientist was Dr. Harry Ferrari (our founder), the engineer was Ron (our Vice President of Research and Development) and the tennis professional was Chuck (our last employee blog highlight!). For four years, the three worked on perfecting the new GAMMA Thermo Nuclear Technology (TNT) process that is still used to produce all the GAMMA TNT strings to this day. This process enhanced what GAMMA had been doing with its patented irradiation process and built on the resiliency of the string by dramatically increasing the elasticity of the string. In other words, with TNT technology, more of the impact energy is stored in the strings and returned to the ball and therefore made the ball come off the string faster. This also added to the initial power of the tennis player with less shock to the arm. Not only that, but it was also the next evolution of GAMMA Tennis!
After receiving the patent for the TNT string, GAMMA’s position as technology leaders in string was strengthened. With the technology, GAMMA can enhance just about anything and make it more durable and resilient, too. As a result of that technology, TNT was the first GAMMA string that really went mainstream and kept the company at the forefront of tennis strings and tennis string technology. With a process that has stood the test of time, it’s easy to see why we are so excited to celebrate TNT’s 25th anniversary!
Still recognized today as a premium performance synthetic gut, TNT is a great option for those tennis players looking to create a hybrid string by combining TNT with their favorite polyester string. TNT is available in Black, Natural, Neon Pink, Neon Blue, Neon Orange and Neon Yellow, in 15L, 16, 17 or 18 gauge, and in either a set or reel. If you’re looking for a fantastic all-around string for power, feel and control, as well as an advanced pearl coating to enhance durability, this is the string for you!
